Situated in Ga-Rankuwa, north of Tshwane, Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital (DGMAH) is a 1 650-bed tertiary facility that has served its surrounding communities for over four decades. As patient numbers and clinical needs have continued to increase, the hospital has required targeted upgrades to strengthen its specialised care capacity.

Through generous funding from FirstRand’s SPIRE (SA Pandemic Intervention and Relief Effort) initiative, an existing general ward was refurbished and transformed into a modern High Care Unit, enabling the hospital to offer additional beds for patients requiring advanced monitoring and clinical support.

Our team was appointed as the main contractor to deliver the full refurbishment of the High Care Unit, completing a comprehensive upgrade aligned with the architect’s specifications and the hospital’s operational needs.

Project Description

The project involved the complete internal renovation of the High Care Unit, including the strip-out of the existing ward, reconstruction of new clinical spaces, installation of essential medical infrastructure, and integration of new medical equipment. The upgraded unit supports improved patient monitoring, enhanced infection control and a more efficient workflow for clinical teams.
