Intensive Care Unit Upgrade

King Edward VIII Hospital is one of KwaZulu-Natal’s largest tertiary healthcare facilities, serving as a major referral centre for specialist and high-acuity cases. To strengthen its critical care capacity and align with KZN’s technical standards, the hospital required an upgrade of its Intensive Care Unit infrastructure and clinical systems.

Our team was appointed to upgrade and modernise the ICU in alignment with KwaZulu-Natal healthcare specifications. The project involved replacing ageing infrastructure, installing new clinical systems, and refurbishing key areas within the ward to enhance safety, efficiency, and overall patient care.

Project Description

This project focused on improving the ICU’s clinical environment through modernised medical equipment, upgraded electrical and medical gas systems, and targeted building refurbishments. All work was undertaken to meet KZN specification requirements and support improved clinical functionality within the ward.

Outcome

The upgraded ICU at King Edward VIII Hospital now reflects current KwaZulu-Natal healthcare standards and provides a safer, more efficient and clinically aligned environment for critical care. Key systems have been modernised, infrastructure has been strengthened, and the ward is better equipped to support high-acuity patients and clinical teams.
